In 2015, D-A Lubricant Company acquired Brad Penn Lubricants including the PennGrade1 brand from ARG. The brand was then expanded to include PennGrade, PennGrade1 and PennGrade Select. D-A has been the formulator and manufacturer of quality lubricant products since being founded in 1919. Frank L. Binford started the company in Indianapolis, Indiana. The company was named after original patent holders, Dortsch & Atkins, thus the name D-A. The first product was a superior heavy duty asbestos grease, then #0, #00, and #000 greases were added in 1923. D-A Track Roller Grease became standard on Caterpillar Dozers in 1928. D-A’s first engine oil was made in 1934 and race tested at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In 1934, D-A pioneered quality control and research and development with a lab chemist, then using oil analysis and preventative maintenance in the 1950’s. D-A now operates two labs in the U.S.: East and West coast. D-A has been privately owned since 2002. All locations are operated, material resourced, and all lubricants proudly manufactured in the United States.
